Earlston Vandalism – Call for Information

It is very disappointing to share that the commemorative Platinum Jubilee Sundial on The Green was vandalised yesterday (30th April 2023).

The sundial was unveiled in September 2022 by the Duke of Buccluech. The Community Council was awarded funding for the sundial via the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Fund. This was a one-off grant to allow voluntary and not for profit groups within the Scottish Borders to provide a legacy project to mark the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend for the benefit of the wider community.

Sometime in the evening of the 30th April, the sundial was vandalised. The arrow head and tail have been removed and the main shape is twisted. The vandals added further damage by urinating on the base slabs.

The matter has been reported to the police. We would appreciate if you could contact us if you have any information relating to the matter or CCTV, doorbell, or dash cam footage from the evening.
